Another nail in the Flash coffin: No Flash in Chrome for Android

@cameronmoll tweeted an article from ArsTechnica today announcing that Google will not support flash in it’s latest browser: Chrome for Android (Beta).

Today Google introduced Chrome for Android Beta. As we announced last November, Adobe is no longer developing Flash Player for mobile browsers, and thus Chrome for Android Beta does not support Flash content,” wrote Adobe’s Flash Platform product manager Bill Howard.

The past year has been devastating for Adobe Flash and for Flash designers and developers. I personally think this is for the best, as it gives us UX designers and Interactive Creatives one more bullet in our magazine to shoot down horrible “creative” ideas from people that don’t understand the web and usability. “Hey yeah, that idea is nice and all, but to pull it off we’ll have to build it in Flash. Oh and by the way, you want this be mobile optimized so yeah, start over.”  Ahhhh that felt good.

Mind Blowing Parallax Scrolling Sites

I’m still waiting for a client/project to use the parallax scrolling effect. It’s technique that I think requires a very specific reason for using it. But here is a collection of some AWESOME examples of how it works and when it makes sense to use it. I am still trying to find one that uses it properly on mobile though.

Make sure you check out the beetle.com site. WOW!

Five Amazing Facts About Social Media and the Super Bowl | Special: Super Bowl – Advertising Age

Oh Superbowl.. how your ads suck so. This was quite possibly the most boring halftime show and some of the worst ads I’ve seen in a while…. well since the last Superbowl I think. Sigh.

Anyway, this article is really amazing when you think about it. 5 facts about how Social Media is still BOOMING and on the rise.

1. Bluefin Labs has so far tracked more than 12.2 million social-media comments during and after Super Bowl XLVI, primarily on Twitter and Facebook. That’s a 578% increase over the total Bluefin tracked last year (1.8 million).

The 5 Hardest Jobs to Fill in 2012 | Inc.com

This is GREAT news for me and my peeps!

Creative Design and User Experience

After engineers, the biggest challenge for companies is finding high-quality creative design and user-experience talent.  Since almost every company is trying to create a highly compelling user experience that keeps people engaged with their product, it is tough to find people who have this type of experience especially with mobile devices including tablets and a demonstrated track record of success.

Advertising Predictions for 2012 – WSJ.com

Advertising Predictions for 2012 – WSJ.com.

I find it interesting that the WSJ would report about AD Trends of 2012, send me to facebook to read it.. then have this in the article (which i totally disagree with)

“Facebook finally jumps the shark,” says Mr. Khabie of Digitaria, using a television-industry idiom that essentially means it’s downhill from here.

Facebook won’t jump the shark… thats just silly. It might flatten out because everyone with a flipping computer is on here, but it will not see a loss of members.

If anything we’ll see more integration with other services through Facebook. Much like the WSJ article I’m referencing.

One prediction I do agree with is that of my boss Michele Fabrizi predicting:

Along with small screens on store shelves flickering with product promotions, kiosk-like machines will offer personalized “product suggestions,” says Michele Fabrizi, chief executive officer of MARC USA. “So if you want to buy the same shade of lipstick or even the same color of paint, it will be able to remind you what you purchased previously.”

Of course that prediction hinges on better, faster, and more robust mobile networks. It might now happen everywhere in 2012.. but it’s coming. Are you ready?

3.7 million Android devices activated over Christmas weekend | The Verge

3.7 million Android devices activated over Christmas weekend | The Verge.

AMAZING. Android is taking over the mobile world. Love it. And I can honestly say that with ICS, they’ve outdone iOS (finally).

It will be interesting to see if they can start to force phone manufactureers to use only stock ICS and stop putting these horrible skins on them.

App downloads also exceeded any previously known levels, jumping to 242 million on Christmas Day.
